Important Update about the 2020 EMLF Annual Institute

A Message from EMLF President Tim Hagerty

Dear Friend of the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation,

Last week, the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees met to discuss the 41st  Annual Institute scheduled for June 14-16 in Amelia Island, Florida. As the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to affect our lives and businesses, it has become increasingly apparent that we will not be able to hold the Annual Institute in June as scheduled.

Thus, we have decided to postpone the Annual Institute until the week of October 12, combining it with the Fall Symposium.  The “Annual Institute & Fall Symposium” will be held in Lexington, Kentucky.  Plans are also underway to hold our biennial Safety Seminar the same week.

This was a very difficult decision, and one undertaken after many hours of thought and discussion.  This is a challenging time for all of us, and we wanted to make the choice that will best safeguard the health and safety of our members.  It will be disappointing not to see everyone in Amelia Island this year but I look forward to our fall Annual Institute in Lexington!

I want to thank those of you who participated in the planning process, and especially Program Chair Karen Greenwell for leading the effort during such an uncertain time.  Thank you also to our sponsors, whose logos appear below, for their support.

In the meantime, we are working to develop online programming to provide our high quality continuing legal education in a new format that is accessible while we remain at home.  We hope to offer some sessions originally planned for the Annual Institute and the Oil & Gas Environmental Institute and other webinars throughout the summer.  Planning also continues for our Petrochemicals Update, August 18, 2020, in Pittsburgh.  We will be back in touch about both of these soon.

I sincerely hope you are remaining safe and healthy during this difficult time.  We are here to help you during this crisis in whatever way we can. Feel free to reach out to me, or to Anna, at any time. Please also check our website for a list of our members’ COVID-19 response pages.  Our members are working tirelessly to provide legal resources to their clients and the general public during this unprecedented situation, and we are very pleased to be able to share access to their work.  To add your link to our list, please e-mail Carolyn at carolyn@emlf.org.

Thank you for your continued support of the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation!

Sincerely,
Tim Hagerty
