I am a Partner with K&L Gates LLP in Pittsburgh, PA where I focus on commercial and energy litigation. As a trial lawyer, I regularly assist clients with matters where the law is unclear and most of the easy options have already been tried. As a result, a positive attitude, sense of humor, and being a “people person” are my best legal tools. I am a life-long resident of Appalachia growing up in Southwestern Virginia (Washington County) and attending the University of Virginia’s College at Wise on a basketball scholarship. During my four years at Wise, I summer interned with the Mine Safety & Health Administration, U.S. Senator – Jim Webb, and Alpha Natural Resources, respectively. Focused on energy issues, I received my law degree from the West Virginia University College of Law in 2013. My wife (Meagan) and I live in Pittsburgh with our two boys, Knox (5) and Beck (2).
The EMLF continued its upward trajectory over the past year and is approaching pre-pandemic levels of attendance and financial health. Of course, this is no surprise given the backbone of support this organization has received from its membership over the past 45 years. For the past decade, I have witnessed first-hand the commitment that EMLF and its membership puts forth in expanding the field of energy and natural resources law. As President, my goal will be ensuring that we redouble our efforts in (1) producing high-quality CLE programs, (2) attracting new members, attendees, and presenters, and (3) fostering continued opportunities for members to enrich their networks. EMLF involvement is not only a major source of knowledge, experience, and professional contacts, but also leads to a collection of great memories and friends. As the next generation of professionals enter the field of energy law, we want them to take advantage of everything EMLF has to offer now and for the next 45 years.
