EMLF General Fund Scholarship recipient Valkyrie Buffa, of Colorado Springs, CO is in her third year at Paul M. Hebert Law Center, Louisiana State University.
Buffa is a first-generation law student in the top 25 percent of her class. She was raised by a single parent, and she works three jobs to supplement her loans.
“I never shy away from hard work,” Buffa said. “And I never turn down an opportunity.”
She said she growing up at the base of the Front Range in Colorado Springs is where she developed her love for nature and the environment, and her passion for energy and natural resources law formed while she was in school.
“Nature nurtured me, and I found peace in the public land we as Americans have the privilege to enjoy. It is my ambition to pursue a legal career in the natural resources field so I can help ensure that the land, water, and minerals the United States is blessed with are preserved for future generations yet to come,” she said.
She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Science in Business and studied abroad in Bangkok, Thailand and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
LSU Professor Keith Hall recommended Buffa to the Scholarship Committee.
“Kyrie is an excellent candidate for long-term involvement in the energy industry and in organizations such as EMLF. She has a strong interest in natural resources law and is one of the most personable, poised students that I have taught,” Hall said.
