You have spent most of your career in-house at a metallurgical coal company. How did you get involved in this area of law? A good friend of mine told me that his dad’s best friend was looking to hire. The rest is history.
Over the years, you have been very active in the EMLF, even though you had a busy position as an in-house lawyer. Why? Relatively few people practice in this space to the depth we do, and it is immensely beneficial for us to have someone to talk to.
Do you find time to travel for fun? Do you have a favorite place to visit? Last year, I sang in a backup choir for Lauren Daigle at Carnegie Hall. Favorite place to visit: Florida’s Gulf Coast.
Any hobbies? Golf; I grill a mean filet; PA announcer for high school football.
You have been practicing law for a while now and have had success. Is there any advice you would give to new lawyers and law students who are about to become lawyers? Abandon the notion that you know what you want to do and where you want to work. I was wrong on that, and most of you will be, too. Instead, have an open mind and try more than one thing unless you’re lucky enough to hit your dream job on the first try.
