Kentucky Mineral Law Conference Planning Meeting on July 28

A reminder that planning for the October 21-22 Kentucky Mineral Law Conference will be on Tuesday, July 28 from 11:00 – 2:00 p.m. in Lexington, KY.  Lunch will be served.  If you would like to attend, please contact sharon@emlf.org and we will provide you with the exact location of the meeting.  We need a head count for lunch, so please let me know if you will be attending.

This conference is the Foundation’s largest program, drawing attendees from about 15 states. Don’t be mislead – it’s not just about Kentucky, and it’s not just about minerals.  This conference started at the University of Kentucky in the early ‘80s, and we have kept the name.  Topics can be on anything related to energy and mineral law, sustainable and renewable energy development, electric power generation, environmental law, natural resources, ethics, land issues, contracts, mergers and acquisitions, real property and title issues. We also include employment issues, mine safety, and bankruptcy.  Topics should be submitted to sharon@emlf.org by Thursday, July 23.  You should provide a title and brief description of the topic and the name of any proposed speaker, including yourself.

We hope you can make time to participate in planning this program.

Waters of the United States (WOTUS)

Some of you heard the presentation at the Annual Institute by David Chung and Sherrie Armstrong on the rule making to revise the definition of “waters of the United States.“  Significant changes to the definition will be effective for all Clean Water Act programs on August 28, 2015.  For that reason, we have posted the chapter on the EMLF website in advance of the publication of volume 36 so readers can prepare to comply with the final rule.
