EMLF Short Courses at WVU College of Law

Coal Law Short Course, August 1-4 at the West Virginia University College of Law, provides extensive course materials and approximately 22 hours of Continuing Legal Education, including a field trip to the WVU Department of Mining Extension’s state-of-the-art simulated underground coal mine.  Dedicated in October 2009 with mining equipment and rescue chamber donated by area coal companies, the simulated underground coal mine facility near Core, WV, is used for specialized training for new miners and mine rescue teams, with the capability to provide live fire training, which attendees will observe.

The Coal Law Short Course will not be repeated until 2012.

A concurrent course on Climate Change runs August 2-4 at the WVU College of Law, with approximately 18 hours of CLE, covering the science of CO2 capture and geologic storage, pore space ownership, carbon offsets, implications for agriculture, carbon credits and avoided deforestation, options for reducing GHG emissions, state and regional GHG programs, voluntary markets, climate change tort litigation, evidentiary considerations related to climate change litigation, greenhouse gas reporting, SEC reporting guidelines related to climate change risk,  plus legal issues related to development of wind projects, biomass projects, and nuclear power.

Both courses will be conducted in classrooms at the WVU College of Law.  Registration fees include all meeting materials, daily refreshment breaks and box lunches, and evening receptions and dinner at the Waterfront Place Hotel, 2 Waterfront Place, Morgantown, WV.  There are direct flights to Morgantown from Washington, DC, or fly to Pittsburgh and drive approximately 70 miles South on I-79 to Morgantown.
