January 9 Cut-off Date for Lago Mar Reservations
EMLF has a room block at a rate of $225 for a one-bedroom suite at the Lago Mar Resort, Fort Lauderdale, FL. Rooms at that rate are available through January 9 or sellout. Be sure to ask for the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation room block. The direct number for the reservations department is 954.523.6511 or 800-LAG-OMAR. Individual reservations may be canceled without penalty seven days or more prior to the confirmed arrival date. Cancellations occurring less than seven days prior to arrival date shall be charged a one night’s room occupancy and tax.
The resort is just five miles north of the Fort Lauderdale airport (about a 10 minute ride), about 15 minutes from downtown Fort Lauderdale and about 45 minutes from Palm Beach and Miami. Directions for driving from the Fort Lauderdale airport and directions for driving from I-95 can be found on the resort’s website.
The Winter Workshops on Energy Law are scheduled for February 10-12, 2013; both an e-brochure detailing topics to be covered and registration are available online.
The conference registration fee includes all educational sessions and materials, Sunday and Monday cocktail receptions, Tuesday mid-morning brunch and refreshment breaks. A CD with all PowerPoint presentations and written materials will be provided. Guest registration includes Sunday and Monday cocktail receptions and Tuesday mid-morning brunch.

The conference consists of 600 minutes, including 60 ethics minutes (10 hours in 60-minute states and 12 hours in 50-minute states).
Call for Topics – 34th Annual Institute in Baltimore
Create the CLE program you want for the 34th Annual Institute, June 16-18, 2013 at Marriott’s Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel, 202 East Pratt Street. Each year the topics are generated by EMLF members who submit their ideas to the program committee, chaired this year by Timothy W. Gresham, PennStuart, Abingdon, VA. The Coal Chair is Timothy J. Hagerty, Frost Brown Todd, Louisville, KY, and the Oil & Gas Chair is Natalie N. Jefferis, EQT Midstream in Pittsburgh, PA. The Program Committee and the EMLF Executive Committee will meet together to select the topics and speakers from the member submissions.
Deadline for topics is Friday, February 22. We encourage you to submit suggestions to Sharon Daniels at sharon@emlf.org, covering any area of energy development, natural resources, ethics, electric power, oil & gas, coal, environmental, land and real property, and renewable energy.
Your topic suggestion should include a brief description and suggested speaker (including yourself) who can make a scholarly and balanced presentation. Each speaker at the Annual Institute is required to submit a substantive outline or narrative article for distribution at the Annual Institute which meets various state requirements for Continuing Legal Education credits, PLUS each speaker must write an original chapter for publication in Volume 34 of the Energy & Mineral Law Institute.
