You are an accomplished litigator. What drew you to litigation? I always wanted to be a litigator, probably before I even knew what the word meant. I was – and continue to be – called to stand up for my clients during difficult situations to pursue a fair result on their behalf.

Many of the cases you have handled through the years have been in mineral and natural resources law. How did you get involved in this area of law? I began working with several amazing mineral and natural resources attorneys as a young associate at Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs and never looked back! I am so fortunate for their guidance and mentorship early in my career.

Over the years, you have been very active in various organizations. What has EMLF meant to you? Has your involvement had a positive effect on your career? Definitely! EMLF has always been one of my favorite organizations. The programming and leadership are top-notch, but I’m particularly grateful for the supportive and family-like environment.

Do you find time to travel for fun? Do you have a favorite place to visit? My family is constantly planning a trip to the beach and/or Disney World. My kids have recently gotten into national parks, and we’re enjoying crossing off as many as possible!

Favorite books/authors, genre? Other hobbies? My previous hobbies of reading, running and closely following UK sports have been replaced with my kids’ various athletic endeavors and I wouldn’t have it any other way. =)

You have been practicing law for a number of years and have had substantial success. Is there any advice you would give to new lawyers and law students who are about to become lawyers? Surround yourself with the type of lawyer you want to become and strive to observe and emulate. When necessary, don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself and others, both personally and professionally. Most importantly, “do good” and enjoy the ride!
