Louis Krivanek is a Juris Doctor candidate at the University of Oklahoma College of Law with a strong and growing focus in energy, oil and gas, and natural resources law. Raised in Oklahoma, he was surrounded early on by the energy industry and its presence in everyday life, which helped shape his long-term interest in the field. Although he did not initially set out to pursue energy law, his perspective shifted during college and solidified upon entering law school, where he began taking energy-focused coursework and engaging more deeply with the industry.
At OU Law, Louis has become actively involved in the Oil & Gas, Natural Resources, and
Energy Journal, where he is currently developing scholarly work examining emerging legal issues in produced water ownership and recent developments in Texas energy law. His academic interests span traditional oil and gas topics as well as broader questions at the intersection of energy production, environmental regulation, and evolving market demands.
His practical experience includes an internship at an oil and gas firm in Oklahoma City, where he gained foundational exposure to transactional and industry-specific legal work. He has also expanded his professional experience through work with OGE Energy Corp. as an extern, as well as upcoming internships with an oil and gas boutique in Midland and a firm in Houston. Across these roles, he has demonstrated a strong ability to engage with complex legal issues and a clear commitment to building a career in energy law.
Louis is recognized by faculty for his intellectual curiosity, strong analytical skills, and thoughtful engagement with challenging legal questions. He aims to pursue a career that spans oil and gas, environmental, and emerging energy issues, with an emphasis on addressing the evolving legal challenges at the intersection of energy production, regulation, and innovation.
