Anneka Harralson is a law student at the University of Houston Law Center and a recipient of the Mary Sue Schulberg scholarship and an EMLF scholarship.
Harralson’s interest in energy and natural resources law grew out of her studies in property and environmental law, where she became interested in the legal frameworks that govern resource development, land use, and environmental protection. Through coursework and professional programming, she gained a greater understanding of how energy projects move from concept to reality and the critical role lawyers play in navigating the regulatory and practical challenges involved.
Classes such as Hot Topics in Energy Law and Environmental Law introduced Harralson to the intersection of energy development, infrastructure planning, environmental compliance, and administrative law. These experiences reinforced her interest in the ways legal and regulatory systems shape the use and management of natural resources while balancing the interests of communities, businesses, and the environment.
“Hot Topics in Energy Law and Environmental Law clarified the kinds of problems I want to keep studying: how the law governs the use and management of resources, how energy development intersects with environmental protection, and how lawyers navigate the intersection of property rights, regulatory compliance, and practical realities,” Harralson said in her personal statement.
Currently enrolled in Natural Resources Law and an environmental law practicum, Harralson plans to continue building her knowledge through research, writing, and hands-on experience. She hopes to pursue a career helping clients address complex energy, infrastructure, and environmental matters while developing practical, legally sound solutions to resource-related challenges.
