West Virginia University College of Law
Alan Parsons is going into his third year at West Virginia University College of Law and is a Cabot Scholarship and EMLF General Fund Scholarship recipient. After helping his father operate his forestry firm and starting a venture with a real estate brokerage, Kanawha Forestry and WVLandGroup, Parsons said he realized his calling was in the law and building up his home state of West Virginia by bringing prosperity to people and businesses.
“I applied to WVU, knowing that I intended to stay in the state and that it would be the best opportunity for me to build connections in West Virginia. I was immediately drawn to the Land Use and Sustainable Development Clinic, which I saw as a unique opportunity to build tangible skills in property law as well as economic development. In law school, I have thrived. I have been a better student than I ever could have been coming directly out of undergrad, and I have maintained my interest in pursuing a career in energy
and natural resources development. I have always wanted to use my career to build up the state of West Virginia, and I see serving in one of the state’s largest industries as a chance to continue to bring greater prosperity to the people and businesses of our state,” Parsons said in his personal statement in his scholarship application.
The Cabot Scholarship was established in 2012 as a result of a litigation settlement which directed funds to EMLF for use in providing scholarships to students at West Virginia University College of Law.
