Victoria Ison, entering her third year at Appalachian School of Law, is a recipient of the James H. Davis and EMLF General Fund Scholarships.

She says her interest in the energy industry was piqued in her first year of law school and while attending EMLF’s Fall Symposium.

“I am learning that natural resources law encompasses a diverse array of resources, from rare minerals to bodies of water of all sizes, each requiring tailored legal approaches to ensure equitable access, responsible exploitation, and environmental conservation,” Ison said. “The diverse nature of natural resources law intrigues me, and I believe I have a place in contributing to the legal solutions that balance economic development with environmental stewardship and social justice.”

** The James H. Davis Scholarship was established in 2004 primarily through donations from the National Council of Coal Lessors and its members and is awarded to a student with Appalachian roots.
