Gary D. McCollum - Fall Symposium Co-Chair

Gary D. McCollum serves as Vice President and Assistant General Counsel for Alliance Coal, LLC. Since 2008, Gary has managed, litigated and formulated strategies addressing the administrative, regulatory and employment law issues affecting Alliance Coal and its independent operating subsidiaries throughout Northern Appalachia, Central Appalachia, and the Illinois Basin.  Gary also provides counsel to another Alliance subsidiary, Matrix Design Group, LLC – a technology and data analytics company that provides innovative products and analysis, particularly as it relates to safety and health within the mining and industrial space. 

Before joining Alliance Coal, Gary served as Corporate Litigation Counsel for the Family Dollar Stores, Inc. Prior to working in-house, Gary’s legal practice focused primarily on construction, public utility, and healthcare company defense litigation.

Gary graduated summa cum laude from the University of Kentucky with a B.B.A. in Marketing, with a second major in Political Science, and he obtained a J.D. from The George Washington University Law School, where he served as a member of The George Washington University International Law Review.
