Each year, the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation awards a number of scholarships to students at our member law schools.  We are currently accepting applications, and have extended the deadline to March 15.  Please share this information with the law students in your acquaintance!

In addition to scholarships awarded from the general fund provided through the wonderful support and participation of our members, the following specific scholarships are awarded each year:

The James H. Davis Scholarship was established in 2004 primarily through donations from the National Council of Coal Lessors and its members.  Each year, a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 is awarded to a student with Appalachian roots.

The Mary Sue Schulberg Scholarship is given annually in remembrance of Mary Sue, a former president and longtime valuable member of EMLF, and was established through the generosity of her husband, Arnold, and the Schulberg family.  Each year, a scholarship in the amount of $2,000 is awarded.

The Cabot Scholarship was established in 2012 as a result of a litigation settlement which directed funds to EMLF for use in providing scholarships to students at West Virginia University School of Law. Each year, a total scholarship of $8,000 is awarded to WVU students from this fund.

EMLF also reimburses selected law students for travel to the Annual Institute through the Schetroma Travel Scholarship, bequeathed by longtime EMLF member and mentor to many, Russell Schetroma.  This is such a great opportunity for law students to network and learn, and would be a great way to send your summer associates to the Annual Institute! Schetroma Scholarship applications are due April 15, 2020.

When our long serving Executive Director, Sharon Daniels, retired in 2018, a scholarship fund was established in her honor.  While the principal is not yet to the point where scholarships can be given, it continues to grow through your generosity.  To make a donation to the Sharon Daniels Scholarship Fund, please click here. To make a donation to any of the other funds listed above, or the general scholarship fund, please contact Anna at anna@emlf.org.
